GLBTQ youth are among the most vulnerable children.  The research literature is just beginning to flourish, but the previous decade of research finds exceptionally high rates of suicide, attempted suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, drop out, homelessness and sexual risk-taking among young people who self-identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. The Alliance started as a result of a 2005 pilot study in Miami-Dade County that found that of GLBTQ youth in the area:

  • 46% had experienced suicidal ideation,
  • 23% had attempted suicide,
  • 57% struggled with substance abuse, and
  • 99% experienced verbal and/or physical harassment

Our services focus on meeting the specific and unique needs of GLBT youth and their families. We know that too often GLBTQ youth are invisible – our work empowers them to become active change agents in their lives. At the same time, we provide services on the community level to increase knowledge and create larger ally support networks nurturing all youth. And in our efforts to be a comprehensive organization, we advocate that our legislators respond to the needs of our youth and provide equal rights.

Our programs are:

  1. Care Coordination
  2. Community-based Group Counseling
  3. Individual Counseling
  4. Prevention Education
  5. Youth Enrichment Activities
